The Cherry Grove Pier was built early in the 1950`s and has been owned by the Prince family since 1965. It has weathered many a hurricane, and was remodeled and lengthened in 1999 after a visit from hurricane Floyd.

Heritage Shores Nature Preserve is one of the most unique parks in the city; created in 2007 with seven (7) acres of walking paths. The park is located on an island that extends into the Cherry Grove Marsh. This land is preserved in its native state and is accessible via a series of elevated boardwalks and observation docks. Interpretive signage throughout the park describes the plants, animals, fishes and birds that can be seen in the park.
Park amenities include:
- 40 station interpretive trail with native soil primitive walk path
- 2 picnic/shade shelters
- Stationary boat dock which provides access from the creek
Named for a former City Councilman devoted to preservation and maintenance of the marsh, the Preserve is a scenic overview of the picturesque Cherry Grove Marsh. Created in 2004, the park provides paved parking and foot access to the inlet. A boardwalk was added in 2009 to maintain important Cherry Grove Marsh habitat. Please be aware that fishing and crabbing are permitted from ground level but not from the pier structure.
